Guam’s economy depends primarily on tourism and Department of Defense installations and expenses.
With a relatively short flight distance from Asia or Australia compared to Hawaii, Guam accommodates a million tourists per year with its hotels and seven public golf courses. Each year, tourism brings up to $15.9 million to its revenue.
The U.S. military has proposed building a new aircraft carrier berth on Guam (Military Build Up Program of Guam ) and moving 8,600 Marines, and 9,000 of their dependents, to Guam from Okinawa, Japan. Including the required construction workers, this buildup would increase Guam’s population by 45%. It is a great chance for Guam to become another Hawaii, and Government of Guam aims to attract more global investments to the island.
With the increase population of stationed military and its dependents, the demands of fruits and vegetables also grow significantly. Aimed to supply the great demands, GUAM NATURE WORKS, LLC (GNW) is established to produce local vegetables and fruits by farming and agricultural programs.
